The ECAL building is a former industrial plant which was converted by the architect Bernard Tschumi in 2007 to provide the school with a surface of approximately 17,000 m². It has an impressive technical infrastructure and first-rate equipment.
Three auditoriums of 352, 106 and 60 seats, a cinema studio, four photographic studios, 24 editing booths, a state-of-the-art computer park, a model workshop (CNC, laser cut, 3D printing…), a specialized library (with nearly 20,000 books, magazines and DVDs), a material library (containing several thousand material samples, objects and industrial processes gathered in a computer database) and a restaurant.
ECAL also benefits from a unique Print Centre dedicated to students, which brings together, over close to 900 m², a printing press (offset press and binding equipment), plotters, inkjet and laser printers as well as screen printing, lithography and etching workshops.
Moreover, ECAL has added a technological centre (Centre des technologies) to its facilities, which brings together under the same roof various know-hows such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), the use of medical sensors, Motion Tracking, photogrammetry, access to the main smartphone and touch- tablet platform providers, home automation, robotics, Video Mapping, etc.
In addition, 2,000 m², where the prestigious EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) has installed an antenna and the Gallery l’elac, which occupies a surface of 550 m² and highlights the works of students or alumni, as well as productions by renowned artists.
