The workshop week 4x5 is both an introduction to the 4x5 technical camera and a way to kickstart a photographic project. Students experience the process of analog shooting, from development to large format printing. This intense week is highly technical, but also focused on developing a photographic language, allowing for a better understanding of the fundamental workings of photography.

Hermès WINDOW DISPLAY IN GENEVA

The Hermès Printing Company Inspired by the aesthetics of rotary printing presses, this project allows passers-by to immerse themselves in a graphic and artistic universe. Through the ten windows of the store, “L’Imprimerie Hermès” is a reinterpretation of the main stages of printing: everything starts with rolls of paper, which are then deployed in large strips, until they become posters. The paper, in all its forms, is printed along its length by repeating the story of a letter published in six different languages (French, English, Italian, German, Chinese and Japanese) by the magazine Le Monde d'Hermès. A layout specially created for this project incorporates large areas of color in order to frame and highlight the accessories from the different Hermès universes. They thus seem to come to life and become part of the story.

The Astonishing Moment of Life Inspired by the Surrealist movement and the desire to find magic and wonder in the familiar and everyday life, this project features shapes and emblematic Hermès accessories that interact to form two subtly choreographed installations. These two window displays, imagined by Greek designer Charitini Gkritzali, a student in the Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury and Craftsmanship at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne, are an interpretation of Hermès' 2023 annual theme, “Astonishment”, offering a moment that oscillates between reality and dreams.

My project focuses on the exploration of sanitary facilities, specifically their spatial layout, use and form. In the context of refurbishment, my project aims to transform the bathroom into an independent, self-contained unit. This fundamental shift provides the framework for a new typology: the fragmented bathroom.

TILTED is an architectural project that focuses on ceramic tiles that help transcend norms, manipulate light and transform spaces. Slightly tilted, hence the name, these tiles interact dynamically with light, casting captivating patterns and enhancing depth. Texture, colour and finish modulate the behaviour of light, creating a bespoke experience. Colours evolve and transform with daylight, evoking emotions and infusing spaces with personality. These dynamic canvases shift the paradigm in tile usage, choreographing light, redefining space and captivating the senses to offer a compelling fusion of artistry and innovation.

Sileo is a social design project based on the “housing first” principle, which aims to provide homeless people with a roof so that they can reintegrate society. Starting from an existing frame hut, the challenge was to design a 10m2 interior to make it a pleasant place to live at a low cost. The project consists of four individual cabins containing a bed with storage, a wardrobe, a mirror, a removable desk, a chair and shelves. All these elements have been designed in Swiss spruce wood and are arranged in the cabin in such a way as to take up as little space as possible. Two other huts serve as a common kitchen and a common bathroom. This place is intended to be supervised by a Geneva association for the homeless.

Several problems have been mentioned to me by market sellers: there are too many separate items, the set-up time is too long, the stand is often too expensive, transportation is inconvenient, and sometimes the umbrellas fly away or get soaked with water. OneStall is a market stall. Easily assembled and disassembled, it includes a textile roof and trays to display your goods. All in one, its structure is light thanks to the aluminium profiles that can be screwed together. To prevent them from getting lost, the screws are held in place by circlips. The stand can be levelled on a sloping floor by using adjustable feet. Finally, the beaded fabric protects the vendor, the merchandise and the consumers from the sun and the rain.

At a time when music can be accessed anywhere and at any time, how can one compose an interactive and evolving album that takes into account its environment? In an ode to strolling around Lausanne, the auditor discovers a polyphonic orchestra while walking through the city’s landmarks. The mobile phone becomes the tool for a composition that features different sound layers, revealed throughout the walk, where the music no longer has a pre-established duration but varies according to the places that are visited. By their geolocation, the listeners/composers initiate new musical tracks as they walk along. A more organic mode of listening is introduced, where compass and binaural sounds reveal the abstract and digital substance that floats around us.

Breathing Wall features raw clay building products developed for Swiss company Terrabloc, which specialises in compressed clay blocks. With excellent properties in terms of mechanical strength, durability and thermal inertia, the raw material comes from soil excavation waste from the French-speaking region of Switzerland, which is recycled into construction products. My approach aims to expand the catalogue of this company by designing two new blocks intended to be integrated into spaces: one for storage walls with multiple configurations and possible uses, the other to divide space while allowing light to pass through.

A collection of neophyte views on current agriculture through the prism of design. Invited by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design de Bordeaux (madd-bordeaux), second-year Bachelor of Industrial Design students at ECAL, under the guidance of designers Erwan Bouroullec and Adrien Rovero, have given form to their observations and questions about the current agricultural landscape. "Real Facts" is a collection of neophyte points of view on current agriculture, through the prism of design. This project was created at the initiative of Constance Rubini, director of the madd-bordeaux, on the occasion of the exhibition "Paysans designers, un art du vivant" at the Musée des Arts décoratifs et du Design de Bordeaux (madd-bordeaux) presented from 14 July 2021 to 17 January 2022. With the precious support of the Association vaudoise de promotion des métiers de la terre Prométerre, and in the framework of the Summer University programme of the Direction générale de l'enseignement supérieur (DGES) - Canton de Vaud.

In 2015, a French law required public places to be made accessible to everyone. Considered sensitive due to its nature, the sea shore was not subjected to the same measures as in cities. This system provides access to sand and water for everyone, including people with reduced mobility, throughout the year, while establishing permanent boundaries between transit areas and areas to preserve. The whole system is made up of three types of wooden floor and steel elements that facilitate movement and that can withstand the harsh coastal weather conditions.

“Zenith” is a collection of durable shutters made from rattan where the weaving facilitates the management of light, heat and the outside view. Each blind consists of a steel structure covered in a relatively dense braided motif inspired by mashrabiya. The shutters project shadows inside, bringing the environment to life. This project focuses on rattan craft and rethinks its manufacturing process in a semi-industrial way.

Concrete is an immersive experience that offers to discover digital architectures through lights and shadows that reveal the volumes and geometry of these environments. A tangible interface of concrete and electronics controls the parts of these buildings. To access the various structures, each person is invited to solve an enigma based on a pattern of light. With Concrete, I aimed to combine reflection on how we interact with a digital world with brutalist architectural inspirations and a playful experience of virtual reality.

“A Continent to Be Shaped” is a journey through alternative teaching in architecture. The book is an atlas from the archives of EASA, an alternative school created by students in Liverpool in 1981. Forty years of workshop data from authors across the continent have been systematically edited in a non-chronological journey, revealing the students’ local ideologies and issues. No architecture is shown in order to stimulate the reader’s imagination, the archive is revived and extended with laser-cut silhouettes then modulated into an umpteenth construction. Prix BCV

The project involved around fifty students divided into groups of two. The students, who graduated from ECAL's Visual Communication Department's Bachelors in Graphic Design, Media & Interaction Design and Photography, were supervised by Angelo Benedetto, Vincent Jacquier, Clément Lambelet and Florian Pittet, assisted by Kylan Luginbühl, Amaury Hamon and Julien Gurtner. Station Lights is a luminary installation specially made for the opening of the Gare du Châble train station. This project is the result of a course led at ECAL/Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne by Angelo Benedetto, Vincent Jacquier and Pauline Saglio. The technical development and production was entrusted to SIGMASIX, a studio started by ECAL graduates, who produce interactive installations in Switzerland and the rest of the world. The content displayed on the installation was made by students of the 2nd year Media & Interaction Design Bachelor: Antoine Barras, Maya Bellier, Pablo Bellon, Ivan Chestopaloff, Bastien Claessens, Guillaume Giraud, Léonard Guyot, Evan Kelly, Lisa Kishtoo, Kylan Luginbühl, Alice Nimier, Paul Lëon, Aurélien Pellegrini, Yael Sidler and Diane Thouvenin.

Platform10 is the transformation of a railway and industrial site to a new district entirely dedicated to to culture. The space, some 22,000 square meters, hosts three recognized cultural institutions: the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of the Elysée and the Museum of design and contemporary applied arts, to a few steps from the station, in the centre of Lausanne . In order to complete this major transformation, Platform 10 launched a competition (by invitation) , in which the 2nd year students took part to design coherent propositions of outdoor (urban) furniture for this new public space.
